Mopar provides Sportsman racers at the NHRA U.S. Nationals in In

The Challenger has a long history in drag racing, and Mopar is preparing an updated package for the car to make it fly in a straight line.

The 2015 Mopar Challenger Drag Pak was shown off to drag racers in the Lucas Oil Series this past week, sporting a host of drag racing mods on the new 2015 Challenger.

Under the hood, the car runs a 426 cubic-inch Race HEMI with an aluminum block, steel liners and custom engine calibration. A Chrysler-based 727 transmission is mated to the engine, complete with a race-style stick shifter with integral line lock. Other mechanical upgrades include an aluminum driveshaft and a weight box in the trunk.

Making sure it sticks to the ground are 15-inch front and rear wheels fit with drag style front tires that are 4.5 inches wide and 30-inch diameter rear tires. On the inside, Mopar has added gauges, driver and passenger lightweight racing seats, safety nets, five-point harnesses and an NHRA-spec roll cage.

Chrysler claims that the modern era Challenger Drag Pak is the only car to come from the factory and win the Stock Eliminator title at the U.S. Nationals and some Factory Shootout races.

The car will be on display this Friday and Saturday during the NHRA U.S. Nationals event, though it is still just a show car. Chrysler didn’t disclose when the drag pak for the 2015 Challenger will be available for purchase.
